If you ask me if I like or if I can name a living artist that I like, then I will tell you undoubtedly that Felix Scheinberger is one of my favorite living artist. There’s so many artists out there somewhere in this world or in other world, but the one who I keep looking around online or in physical book, is Felix Scheinberger.
Felix is a German artist, illustrator, designer and art teacher. He has illustrated more than fifty children’s books in the last decade, his work appeared in magazines including Harvard Business Manager and Psychology Today.
I don’t know him in person, but I took an online drawing class from him by Sketchbookskool and I loved his style. In my opinion he is an high level professional artist with many styles and what attracts me most is his sketching, he really uses his hand and his drawing tools to make magic.
No one can mimic his style, the free style, rough black ink, quick watercolor brush strokes and his portrait drawings or drawing of people is his weapon! His drawing can really kills (you know what I mean) you! But this is only my personal taste, you may like or dislike. Lets find out from one of his most popular book!
Felix has published several books of all kinds, the book that fascinated most to me is Dare to Sketch : A Guide to Drawing on the Go.
Now let us explore the world of sketching with watercolor from the master.
Because I don’t have the English version of the book, examples shown are from the translated Chinese version from the same book.
A guide that shows painters, drawers, doodlers and urban sketchers how to bring their drawings to life with colourful, bold, yet accessible painting methods. (…) Dare to Sketch is gorgeously illustrated with the author’s unique and contemporary art style.
Book Depository
The book measures 168 x 238 x 20.32mm | 576.06g (ipad pro {2018 version} weights 677g) with 224 pages. The cover is hard with matte finish.
I know that I am exaggerating, but I really like all the illustrations from the book, everything that is drawn by Felix is already a treasure to me. Its difficult to decide which pages to show you as an example for the review.
If one day he can draw me a portrait or a caricature, I am sure I will frame it and mount it in my studio.
What I chose were my personal preference and I pick up mostly about drawing of people, portraits and caricatures, because Felix has his very own special style and that’s what I like most.
I am sorry that I needed to place a camera toy to give weight to the pages, because the book is still new and cannot wide open it as I don’t want to let the book wide open yet.
If you buy the book from my links @jackson’s art supplies, I can receive a little commission that helps me to buy more books to review.
